Adelaide winters are not kind to backyard parties. But a foam blaster battle actually works brilliantly indoors — bunkers, corners and doorways make for better cover than an open lawn ever does.
The trick is finding the right space. This is our rundown of council-run halls and community centres across Adelaide that are worth a look, plus everything you need to check before you book.
First: What Makes a Good Foam Blaster Venue?
Before you go hunting, know what you're looking for.
- Floor space over ceiling height. You want room to run and set bunkers out, not a cathedral. A hall of roughly 100–150m² comfortably handles 20 kids.
- A hard, open floor. Timber, vinyl or a sports court. Avoid carpet if you can — darts are much harder to find.
- Minimal furniture and nothing precious. Stages are fine and actually fun. Glass display cases, honour boards and pianos, less so.
- Heating. It's winter. Check the hall has it.
- A kitchen or servery for cake and food.
- Parking, because twenty kids means fifteen cars.
- Enough hire time to set up and pack down. Most councils charge by the hour and expect you to bump in and out within your booked window. Allow an extra 30 minutes either side. Inflating the bunkers takes 10–15 minutes on its own.

Northern Suburbs
City of Salisbury Seven community centres and hubs across the council area, with meeting rooms and halls for hire. Bagster Road Community Centre in Salisbury North has an air-conditioned and heated hall with a stage, and standing capacity for up to 100. City of Playford Several community halls. Spruance Hall in Elizabeth East accommodates up to 130 people, with a kitchen, bar and stage, and is used for birthdays and community gatherings. Western Suburbs
City of Port Adelaide Enfield Community halls available for casual hire, five of which are suitable for one-off private functions including parties. Every hall has air conditioning and heating, kitchen facilities and wheelchair access, and some have onsite parking. Discounts are offered for PAE residents. City of Charles Sturt A good spread of halls, including Flinders Park Community Hall on Grange Road, Henley Town Hall, Kilkenny Community Hall, Murree Smith Memorial Hall at Woodville, and Woodville North Community Hall. Eastern Suburbs

City of Burnside The Burnside Community Centre has a spacious hall with a stage and a commercial kitchen. Burnside Town Hall is also available, though it's a heritage venue — 1920s, with wooden floors and ornate windows — so definitely check with them first about what you're planning. burnside.sa.gov.au/Community-Recreation/Community-Venues/Community-Centres
Southern Suburbs
City of Marion Free and low-cost venue hire across four neighbourhood centres, booked through SpacetoCo. The Cooinda Neighbourhood Centre at Sturt has a hardwood main hall suited to recreational activities and events, and Clark Hall at Glandore Community Centre is a large heritage-listed hall. Other Options Worth Considering
Council halls aren't the only game in town. Also try:
- Scout and Guide halls — often cheap, usually hard-floored, and generally very relaxed about what you do in them
- Church halls
- Sports and community club rooms (netball, soccer, footy, bowling clubs)
- School halls — some hire out on weekends
- Indoor sports centres with a spare court
